Brain Food: Fish Oil And Your Brain

Fish oil is not only good for the heart and for our overall health, this is also good for our brain. Fish oil comes from fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines and anchovies. It contains Omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid or DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA. These kind of Omega-3 fatty acids cannot be produced by the body so it is important to take in food that contain these kinds of nutrients.

Fish oil is said to improve brain development and memory. DHA plays a major role in the structure and development of the brain. It is also important in developing vision. Pregnant women’s diet should constitute fish oil since DHA is important for the baby to develop their brain.

According to the research by the University of Western Australia, expectant mothers who include DHA in their diet are said to give birth to babies with better eye and hand coordination and less risk of giving birth prematurely. Their children are also better speakers and could understand more at the age of two and a half. Although, if you are pregnant and would like to take fish oil supplement, it is better check with your doctor first. Fish oil is also said to result into bleeding as a side-effect.

Research and studies showed that adding fish oil to your diet could also reduce possibility and risks of mental and psychological disorders like depressive orders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Actually, according to a study by Aberdeen University they identified that fish oil can actually increase IQ scores and can even slow the ageing process. According to a Swedish study published in the Archives of Neurology, patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer were given 1.7 grams of DHA and .6 grams of EPA. They showed less cognitive decline in six months.

As mentioned, fish oil is recommended for children who have ADHD. There are studies showing that the lack polyunsaturated fatty acids can contribute to this disorder. This can also be the reason behind dyslexia. There were studies conducted among children, they were given fish oil supplements for the period of three months. These children showed significant improvements in behaviour, reading and spelling. They were also able to focus and concentrate more.

There were studies that showed that Omega-3 fatty acids had the same effects as Prozac which is a known anti-depressant. Studies showed that countries with high fish consumption have lower rates of depression. Aside from that, pregnant women and those who have just given birth who include fish in their diet regularly have lower risk of experiencing postpartum depression.

If you have decided to take fish oil supplements to address these mental problems for yourself or for your kids or relatives, then it would be best to consult a doctor first. You would have to know how much you are going to take. Just like any vitamins or anything, when taken in excess it can have bad effects.

Too much of fish oil supplement can also cause some serious problems like oxidative stress. Some doctors would recommend taking Vitamin C along with the fish oil supplement. This would actually balance the nutrients that you are getting.

Fish oil has amazing effects on our health and body, we just have to remember to keep it balanced with a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle.

How to start running: Breathing Techniques In Running

Breathe naturally, or concentrate on breathing technique. Many argue that the best breathing technique is to inhale through the nose, expanding your lungs and exhaling through the mouth wide open.

Your nose is a good air filter, especially when running outside, which prevents you from accidentally swallowing insects. Exhale through the mouth allows your body to get rid with less effort of carbon dioxide and body heat.

One of the more important aspects of running is the proper way of breathing. Running is not just about the legs and thighs and feet. It is also about the lungs and how to bring greater amounts of oxygen into the system efficiently.

Unnoticed by many, even by the athletes themselves sometimes, the nature of your breathing during your running affects your performance. Those runners who can correctly deliver oxygen into their system are stronger than their counterparts who struggle when they are running because they do not know the technique.

Swimmer’s breathing

One training technique is to breathe slightly slower than your body requires when you are not running. This starves your system for oxygen and forces the heart to beat faster.

After a time, the body learns to compensate for the lack of oxygen so that when this technique is not in use, your body is already more efficient in processing your breathed air. This is demonstrated in swimming.

Swimmers do alternate breathing which is breathing every third stroke. This enables them to breathe on alternate sides without taking a breath with every stroke.

At the start, their body demands more oxygen, but will learn to adjust to the decrease in oxygen. In time, the body becomes more efficient in processing the limited air. Runners who swim often have excellent breathing efficiency.

Breathing rhythms

Sometimes, in long races (or even those short races) a runner may lose focus and is thrown out of his breathing rhythm. It could be caused by the simple forgetting to concentrate on the breathing or its pattern.

One way to avoid this is for the runner to time his breathing in rhythm with his steps. This is like the style of the swimmers who breathe at every third stroke.

Runners who get to this state can keep running like a clock, with consistent pace and a great deal of efficiency. This concentration on breathing can also take his mind away from pain or soreness that may have developed at this stage and can cause him to quit the race.

Deep breathing

One other technique that can be used when running is deep breathing. It has several benefits when correctly done and practiced.

It helps the runner to stay relaxed, which in turn, helps to decrease fatigue. The ability to relax decreases the chances of performance decline.

Runners who forgot to relax find themselves making inadvertent changes in form until they feel the resulting pain. Examples include clinching of fists too tightly and running with the shoulders too high to be effective. This type of poor form often results in muscle fatigue and soreness.

Deep breathing helps promote relaxation while running. This is done by taking a larger-than-normal breath and exhaling all the way out.

During the exhale part, you should concentrate on releasing all the tension in your arms by shaking them, opening up your hands and moving your head in circles.

This combination of activities will give you an easy way to remain relaxed during the run and does not even need to break stride to do all of them. This is true to all the other breathing techniques in running – no requirement of great efforts but just as effective.

Activities Promoting Healthy Aging

Lack of activities can prevent you from living healthy. When you do not enjoy activities, you may feel fatigue or find it difficult to sleep at night. When you awake in the morning, you may feel tired until you finally fall asleep. As we, age our body change and we have to make changes to accommodate our lives.

Having a good night sleep makes the mind think more clearly. A good night sleep also boosts your energy while controlling your weight. You can also make decisions with less stress. Sleeping well at night makes our immune system stronger to keep us healthier. Researchers have proved that a good nights sleep is necessary for our health. Researchers have found that lack of sleep reduces the growth hormones in our bodies, since it changes muscles to fat. Sleep overall is most important, yet it stands behind activities. To improve your health, try walking each day.

Walking will help to loosen our muscles, reduces stress and depression along with anxiety. By reliving these things, it will help us to sleep for a longer and deeper period. So, when we wake up in the morning we feel happier and more rested.

When you exercise, you get a good night sleep, which promotes metabolism. Without the right amount of sleep, our bodies crave energy. Our body will release insulin or glucose into the bloodstream, which slows down metabolism. This action causes the body to gain weight, rather than control weight.

When a person feels exhausted, they will feel weak and repressed from enjoying activities. This leads to additional problems. Sleeping right balances out our bodies giving us, more energy leading to more activities that will satisfy our sleep needs.

What to avoid:
To rest proper and feel active you must reduce your intake of caffeine, nicotine, harmful chemicals, such as over-the-counter meds that keep you awake, alcohol and so on. The chemicals and substances will keep you awake. Try to avoid drinking anything after 8 p.m. in the evening. Nicotine should be avoid if possible, yet if you must smoke try to avoid smoking after 8 p.m.

Start a walking program in the morning to help wake you up, while boosting your energy. You will feel better since the joints will feel flexible enough to move freely. In addition, walking will help you burn fat and calories. You’ll notice a big change in how you feel the rest of the day. Start out walking at a slow steady pace for as far as your comfortable. Each day pick up the pace a bit and walk further. Just remember when walking that you want to work up to a steady brisk walk to make you sweat but not out of breath. Take a short walk before and after meals to calm your nerves, and burn calories too, it will give you energy, relieve that stress from the long day and help you sleep.

If you start a walking program for yourself, it is a lot more fun if you have someone to go with you. Talk to that neighbor you don’t know and maybe they’ll walk with you. Just think about it; you’ll be acquainted with someone new, talk about new things will relieve stress and get in you exercise as well. This might help that neighbor too who maybe hasn’t seen or talked to anyone in a couple of days and than they can sleep better at night.

After walking that brisk walk your doing be sure to cool down. When walking at a vigorous pace your heart rate will go up and it needs to be back to normal. Just walk a bit slow and relaxing until you’ve cooled down.

LEAVE YOUR COMMENT, THANKS A LOT

Is Exercise Necessary For Weight Loss

Since you know that to lose weight requires you to burn more calories than you consume, you might wonder, "is exercise necessary for weight loss?" The answer might surprise you.

The quick and easy answer is no. Exercise isn't necessary for weight loss. A person, without exercising at all, can lose weight. But it certainly won't be easy, and it's certainly not healthy.

For someone who's completely sedentary to lose weight, they have to take in fewer calories than they burn just like anyone else. And without any form of exercise, they're not burning many calories. That means eating very little food would be necessary to lose weight.

For someone with no appetite, this won't be a problem. But for most people, eating amounts of food so small as to allow them to lose weight would be a challenge. Exercise lets you enjoy food more, which is a benefit few people really talk about.

You can diet to an extreme. If you're taking in a very small amount of calories compared to how many you are burning, you're not doing yourself any favors. You need to reach a minimum number of calories per day. For most people a 1200 calorie diet is close to starvation.

But if you're not getting any type of exercise at all, you may not be able to eat even that much in this way. Getting regular exercise allows you to take in more calories while still losing weight. This is a true benefit for anyone who wants to be able to eat normal meals.

You won't be able to eat anything you want. You can't enjoy lasagna five times a week or have ice cream every day even if you're exercising. You have to make wise choices. But you do need to take in enough calories to put your intake in a healthy range.

Without exercise, the number of calories you can eat goes down. That severely limits the type of food you can eat. Most people couldn't maintain that level of dieting for very long.

So while you can lose weight without exercising, why would you want to? Only in the most extreme situations where exercise isn't possible, would this even be advisable. And even then, for most people there is some form of exercise they can do.

Someone even confined to a bed may be able to move his or her arms and do a form of strength training to help build endurance. So there are very few situations where no exercise at all is the only choice.

Exercise offers other benefits besides weight loss. It tones not only your muscles, but your circulatory system and your respiratory system. Our bodies are designed to move, so exercise is necessary for good health no matter what weight you are.

And while it is possible to lose weight without exercise, losing weight becomes much easier when you do work out. So, "is exercise necessary for weight loss?" No, it isn't, but it is necessary for the most healthy type of weight loss, and for overall good health.

Acupuncture and Weight Loss

There are a lot of people who are overweight. For those who are obese, perhaps surgery is the best option but for those who can’t, they can try to see if acupuncture can help take out the excess weight.

Acupuncture is a form of holistic healthcare that uses needles to help treat a patient. Unlike the cartoon where the balloon will pop and all the air will go out, the needles that are inserted into the vital points will stimulate the body to release endorphins thus helping the person control their appetite.

But before needles are inserted, the specialist will first ask the patient some questions and perform an examination. This is needed to understand the main cause for the person to be overweight.

Part of examination is to help the acupuncturist figure out where the needles will be inserted. Your pulse will give the person an idea on your general state of energy and the general health of your stomach.

You will also have to open your mouth and show your tongue to check for cracks, peelings or puffiness on the stomach area as this provides clues to why you are overweight.

Once he or she knows the reason, this is the time that the needles are inserted into different parts of the body. One way is called the multi-targeted approach which is designed to lower the body’s weight by increasing the output of the pituitary gland.

The areas where the needles will be inserted will be in the ear and in two of three body points. These areas could also include the mouth, the stomach, the lung, the endocrine, the spleen, kidney or thyroid.

During the initial treatment, the “Four Gate” points would be used to circulate energy throughout the entire body. It is also possible that electro simulation will also be done to increase endorphin release and stimulate metabolism.

These needles will be kept in place for 30 to 45 minutes depending on how much support is needed. These are then removed and replaced with ear tacs with adhesives to make sure they are in the same spot as the needles.

These ear tacs work by applying mild pressure whenever he or she feels hungry. It causes a mild endorphin release and helps the patient relax making it possible to use their willpower and resist the temptation to eat.

The patient will also have to reduce cravings on certain food by cutting down the intake. Some studies suggest that this can also lower insulin levels or lipid levels in the blood.

The best part about acupuncture is that there are no harmful side effects and no chance for an addiction to occur. The patient will have to come back for regular treatment and have to pay attention to one’s diet and exercise regularly as needles can only do so much to control one’s weight.

The number of treatments for someone who is overweight varies depending on how many pounds they want to lose, the speed at which they want to lose it and their commitment to sticking to the plan.

The average patient on the other hand who wants to lose 5 to 10 pounds will have to come for treatment every three days or twice a week then once this is attained, once every two weeks. It is up to the person until when the treatment will be done which shows that acupuncture can help you lose weight.

Facing Depression Head On

Depression (also called major depressive disorder) is a medical condition characterized by several signs and symptoms, among which two are essential: persistently lowered mood, presenting itself as sadness, anxiety or feelings of emptiness and reduced ability to feel satisfaction or experience pleasure.

The depressive state differs from the "sad " or melancholy that affects most people because it is a lasting condition of neurological accompanied by several symptoms. That is, depression is not sadness. It is a disease that is treated.

Always feeling under the weather? Always not in the mood to be around others and have a good time? If you’re suffering from prolonged sadness for quite some time now, you should face these bouts of depression and get yourself diagnosed by a psychiatrist, they’re doctors who can actually help you out with your problem.

Depression or prolonged sadness is actually quite common in the United States, around 9.5 percent of the American population actually suffer from this illness, however, not all of them get to be treated, thus, depression and its ill-effects continue to be a burden to some individuals.

This illness may seem quite simple to treat but in reality, it takes more than a little cheering up to actually cure depression. Constant visits to a cognitive behavior therapist is a must as well as taking all the prescribed medicines that the doctor will ask the patient to take – none of these exactly come cheap, but the amount of suffering that a person is going through because of depression is enough reason already for others to start taking notice and face depression head on.

Depression oftentimes can easily get in the way of an individual’s daily activities and his or her’s normal functions, one’s zest for life can quickly and easily dissipate due to depression. And in place of an individual’s sunny disposition is more or less a person who hates his or herself, having no self-confidence, trying to isolate one’s self from the world and basically just not caring about living any more.

More so, a person suffering from depression isn’t the only one who’s going to suffer from this destructive illness, his or her loved ones are sure to follow suit. By seeing the individual grow through such rough patches, basically not caring about anything or anyone anymore, it’s highly likely that not only will depression one’s relationship with one’s self but with his or her loved ones too.

Fortunately depression can now be cured, especially when diagnosed early, depressed individuals can actually be treated through therapy and medication, although it may be a bit costly, a person’s good mental health is something that shouldn’t be scrimped on. Cognitive behavioral talk or interpersonal talk are just some of the available psychosocial treatments that cognitive behavior therapists can offer to their patients, both actually prove to be able to produce fruitful and positive results.

Still, people tend to not recognize depression even it’s right before their eyes, being honest with one’s self is key to being able to cure such an illness. Never overlook the various symptoms, depressed individuals oftentimes exhibit uncharacteristic behaviors such as suddenly lacking interest in one’s hobbies (or other stuff that he or she usually enjoys), sleeps too much or actually aren’t able to get some shut-eye, suddenly becoming anti-social, talks a lot about death or being a worthless person.

There are actually a lot more other symptoms but in case these already fit in your category or of someone that you know of, go to a reputable psychiatrist at once in order to see if the depression is still at an early stage or not. From here you’ll be able to assess how the treatments will actually go.

7 Tips to Consider When Buying a Treadmill or elliptical

1. Do your research and get several price quotes from several different stores. Typically, the more you deal with the various companies, the better deals they will come up with such as discounts, free product, financing specials, etc.

2. Tread carefully when buying over the Internet. Some companies, like Landice and True, will void your warranty if bought over the Internet and some have restrictions on delivery distances from an authorized dealer. If in doubt, call or email the factory. Another issue related to Internet buying is delivery.

Many of us in the business know how difficult it is to ship a single treadmill or elliptical without having it damaged so deal with a company that has been doing it a long time and has already learned how to do it. Another issue to keep in mind is what you are going to do if you don't like the machine.

Most companies accept returns but the cost to ship the treadmill back to the factory can easily cost hundreds of dollars so it is quite an expensive trial test if the machine is returned. Also curbside delivery literally means what it says...the trucking company will sit it on the curb and it's your problem to get it into the house, so either pays for inside delivery or have help ready.

Another issue is service...some internet companies have good service networks and others don't but remember that you probably won't get the type of personalized service you should expect from a local dealer.

3. Do take care of your treadmills. Whether they require quite a bit or little maintenance, keeping the treadmill or elliptical clean and the walking belt lubricated on the treadmill can be the difference between having a great treadmill or a money pit. Refer to our Treadmill or Elliptical Care Pamphlet for maintenance instructions.

4. If you are considering used machines, really do your homework, and then do it again. We do rebuilding jobs for local health clubs all the time and do this work occasionally for people who are buying health club models for the home but to do it right costs quite a bit and if someone is telling you they have a used or rebuilt at an amazing price, you typically aren't getting the entire story.

5. Since buying a treadmill is a huge investment for most people, choose your dealer and factory carefully. As with any product, a brand new company may not be around in a few years, parts can be very specific to machines and spares may not be available if the factory isn't around.

A dealer for a reputation for high quality and personalized service is necessary for some people. Other people feel confident in servicing their own equipment, so figure out which one you are and buy accordingly.

If you know one end of a wrench from the other, you might want to save a few dollars with an Internet purchase. Others may need to pay for the full-service price you should get from a local dealer but if you pay the higher price, demand the higher service level.

6. Treadmills and ellipticals are different than many other home appliances. Remember, we rate a treadmill average if it has a breakdown only once every 5 years...that's average! Extended warranties can make sense if the manufacturer has a short warranty and if you get it from a reputable extended warranty company.

Remember the dealer is typically not the warranty provider and many have gone out of business over the years and others are hard to deal with. For instance, UTS (Icon's warranty company) is the best we have ever dealt with. If you get an Icon machine, buy the UTS warranty...it will be well worth it.

UTS's number is 800-677-3838. Also, Sears has a good extended warranty program and it typically pays for itself if you use the machine. On the other hand, we have had problems with the company called N.E.W. and many others have gone out of business so do your research on your warranty company if you have never heard of them.

7. A great final tip is if you want to save a bit of money. Due to the influence of Asian parts, the lower end treadmills and ellipticals are getting better and better while the price is holding the line and the ones being made today in the $800 range are much better than the $800 machines made 10 years ago.

If you need to save a few bucks and your doctor says it is OK, use a few degrees of incline always when you use your machine. If the machine is well maintained and if you use a bit of incline (on the treadmill), you can get by with a bit less of a machine than you might otherwise need.

The incline allows gravity to take over quite a bit of the workload from the drive system. A treadmill used with just a slight incline will last much longer than a comparably cared for treadmill that is used at a flat level.

Eight Benefits of a Facial Moisturizer, and Moisturize the Skin

It protects against solar radiation, pollution and slows the aging

A good facial moisturizer with SPF, is capable of doing much more for your skin than simply leaving it soft and velvety to the touch.

If you have the habit of using the product daily, know that is very well equipped against wrinkles, laxity, spots and premature aging. The following eight reasons not to come unglued this magical cream.

1. Prevent drying

Dry skin is dehydrated and dull, rough, inelastic and prone to flaking. Those small wrinkles and fine lines are also evident when the skin is dry. The moisturizer keeps its moisture and adds important nutrients for regeneration and tissue regeneration. Moreover, when it is dry, the skin may have compromised their protective function, favoring disease and infection.

2. Protect against pollution

Moisturizers that are fortified with antioxidants in the formulation, such as vitamins C, E and coffeberry can help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative damage caused by pollution.

3. Prevent stains

One of the main causes of spots on the skin is excessive and inappropriate exposure to solar radiation. Using a moisturizer that contains SPF and active in the bleaching composition can not only help prevent stains, such as lighten them. In addition, the moisturizer protects and maintains the properties of the skin, giving it more power to repair itself.

4. Improve lighting

Proper nutrition restores freshness to the skin. When you are dehydrated, the skin is usually opaque, rough, lifeless. When we recover the moisture by applying a good moisturizer, improve its appearance, with consequent improvement of its luminosity.

5. Ward off aging

The aging process is linked to gradual loss of natural skin hydration. With the habit of moisturizing the skin regularly, nourish the cells and can slow or at least minimize this process. The versions with sunscreen also protect against solar radiation, preventing stains, sagging and wrinkling characteristics of photoaging.

6. Control shine and oiliness

There are moisturizers on the market with assets that help control shine and oil. These are products that have called or tinted matte effect.

The specific formulations for oily skin also control sebum production because of its active principles, such as azelaic acid and glycolic.

7. Give more to skin tone

Some moisturizers add assets in its formulation as THPE in giving the lifting effect and helps improve skin tone, giving more power.

8. Protect against solar radiation

Moisturizers with sunscreen helps protect the skin against UVA and UVB radiation, largely responsible for premature aging of the skin and in severe cases, skin cancer.

The harmful rays destroy the collagen fibers of skin, responsible for firmness and elasticity, favoring spots, wrinkles and sagging.

5 Habits that Age your Skin

No woman who has no worry about the appearance of skin. Over time, fine lines, sagging, wrinkles and lack of light start to bother. But no point in spending the tubes literally in the most revolutionary of aesthetic treatments in cream or most expensive market. All this fades if you make room for true enemies of the health of your skin. Smoking, stress and sugar too few. Then you can see what other bad habits those promote premature aging. Stay away from them and rejuvenate.

1. Smoking. Every cigarette reduces oxygenation of the skin for 90 minutes! Imagine those who smoke more than one per day. Result: The skin is thick and yellow, because of nicotine, without the freshness and opaque.

Besides all the problems it causes to health, smoking also causes disturbances in metabolism and accelerates the loss of collagen, the cells responsible for giving support and elasticity to the skin, encouraging laxity. "The act of smoking causes wrinkles around the lips and around the eyes, as the smoker partially closes his eyes to protect the eyes from smoke.

2. Stress. Emotional stress alters our hormones, increasing the release of endogenous corticosteroids and adrenaline, for example. This can leave the skin more oily and acne. Stress also lowers our defenses, and the skin is more prone to diseases and infections. The most common are herpes, allergies, rashes, psoriasis and vitiligo up.

3. Ignore pollution. The gases found in polluted air toxins form a film that ends up being absorbed by the skin, increasing the oxidation reactions and formation of free radicals that damage skin. Oxidation is a natural process that happens in the body, but aging cells. Excessive pollution oxidizes the cells of both the skin like the whole organism. So to avoid this reaction, it is important to protect your skin daily, applying sunscreen, moisturizer and doing the cleaning to remove impurities.

4. Lack of water. An early sign of water shortage (dehydration) occurs in the skin and mucous membranes. Among these cells, we have an interstitial fluid that helps support the skin, among other functions. The lack of drinking water leaves the skin loose and withered.

The skin loses its glow, slow to return to its natural state, when he suffers a distortion. For example, the pinch, she soon must return to its normal state to let go. If this takes to happen, it means you are dehydrated and flaccid. Besides leaving the skin firm and hydrated, drink water also promotes the excretion of toxins, which damage the skin. What is recommended to consume at least two liters of water per day.

5. Do not use sunscreen. Excessive sun exposure, and especially the lack of sun protection, is the main cause of skin aging and skin cancer. To get an idea, the solar radiation is responsible for 80% of the aging of exposed skin, especially in more white fur, which undergo this process early. "Solar radiation is a potent cellular oxidant.

The radiation penetrates the skin and causes changes in the DNA of the cells directly and indirectly causes chemical reactions that alter the DNA and collagen and elastic fibers," explains dermatologist Daniela Taniguchi.

According to the expert, even though our body has defense mechanisms and antioxidant action, this is not always enough to prevent these reactions. The result is what we call photoaging. Appear then, spots, freckles, flaccid, rough skin, wrinkles increase and in some cases, skin cancer. The SPF for the day to day, should never be less than 30 to face, neck, neck and hands (areas of skin more sensitive) and 15 for the rest of the body.

Lotions vs. Skin Care Creams

There is no dearth of skin care creams and lotions in the market. Name an ailment, and you will find hundreds of skin care creams, lotions and other products for it. As a result of ongoing research and due to ever increasing demand, the number of skin care products seems to be on the increase. Skin care lotions and skin care creams are the most popular forms in which these products are available, and there always seems to be a debate on which form is better?

Well, there is no definitive answer to this. It seems more like a matter of personal choice. However, greasy creams are surely less popular as compared to the non-greasy (or less greasy) ones. Since the application of skin care creams is easier, they seem to be preferred (over lotions) in cases where the skin care product is not to be removed immediately after application.

So, skin care creams seem more popular as moisturisers than as cleansers or toners. For toners, lotions seem to be preferred over skin care creams. There are some skin care creams that acts as toners too, but generally the toners are available in liquid form only. For cleansing, lotions and skin care creams are equally popular; however, the tilt seems more towards lotions.

Creams are known to be most effective in keeping skin moist; hence, the most popular form of skin care creams is moisturisers. Due to the same reason, a lot of people tend to associate skin care creams with dry and sensitive skin.

Though it is true to a certain extent, skin care creams are not used only for dry skin, they are also used for making products for oily skin e.g. vitamin A creams and sulphur creams that help reduce the rate of sebum production.

Skin care creams are also used for products that cater to skin disorders especially for disorders that require the application of product over a small localised area. This is again due to the fact that skin care creams are easier to apply (without wastage) on the affected area.

However, in cases where skin needs to be washed using a medicine/product, lotion is a better choice. Mostly, the manufacturers too realize this fact, making it easier for you to choose between a lotion and a skin care cream

Eye-creams and anti-ageing creams are other examples where skin care cream is preferred over its lotion counterpart.

Whatever your choice be (cream or lotion), knowing how to use it effectively, is more important than anything else.

WHAT'S THE REAL SIGNIFICANCE OF VITAMIN C and YOUR NEEDS FOR BODY?

Vitamin C has become popular because of its role as an antioxidant, with potential to provide protection against some diseases and degenerative aspects of aging. But not all good news. Excess vitamin C can cause side effects such as nausea and diarrhea

WHAT IS VITAMIN C?
Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is one of 13 key vitamins that are part of a group of complex chemicals necessary for the proper functioning of the organism. It is one of water soluble vitamins, meaning that your body uses what it needs and eliminates the excess.

WHAT IS THE QUANTITY ENOUGH?
This is a difficult question to answer. The Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences (The Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences) is reviewing the current recommendations for intake of vitamin C. The number of April 21, 1999 issue of JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), experts from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests enhancing the current recommended daily allowance of vitamin C from 60mg to 100-200mg per day. They emphasize that, whenever possible, vitamin C should be obtained from fruits and vegetables, and that people can eat the recommended amount by eating five servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

Vitamin C is found in foods like citrus fruits, tomatoes, strawberries, sweet pepper and broccoli. The best way to get the required amount is through a healthy diet rich in vitamin C. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables can also help prevent some cancers.

WHAT IS VITAMIN C?

Vitamin C helps the body's cells, including bones, teeth, gums ligaments and blood vessels to grow and stay healthy. It also helps the body respond to infection and stress, in addition to supporting the efficient use of iron. If your body does not receive adequate daily amounts of vitamin C, you'll be more likely to present esquimoses skin, bleeding gums, poor wound healing, tooth loss, joint pain and infections.

WHAT ARE YOUR NEEDS?
NDRs (recommended daily allowance) of vitamin C for most people aged over 15 years are 60mg per day. Among people who need more vitamin C are the pregnant women (70mg), breastfeeding women (90 to 95mg) and smokers (at least 100mg). Since vitamin C cannot be stored in the body, it is important to replace them, eating the recommended daily amounts.

THE MORE, THE BETTER?
Some people take large amounts of vitamin supplements because they believe they can avoid certain illnesses such as colds. However, these assumptions have not been proven. Ingesting excessive amounts of vitamin C (more than 100mg per day, approximately) can cause nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhea and possibly kidney stones. Discuss the use of vitamin supplements with your doctor.

Betting on Vitamin C to Lose Weight

An American study has now established that adequate doses of the nutrient help burn fat

Many people live on food restrictions, following a straight drive for physical activity programs and still are frustrated because the weight stubbornly remains at the very same place. It's your case? Well, if the answer is yes, here's a second question: will you walk in perfecting foods rich in vitamin C? Not a good round might explain - in part at least - why the pointer does not lower the balance in accordance with expectations. It's a brand new research that links the adequate intake of this nutrient to a greater reduction of fat.

It was concluded that the experts of the Department of Nutrition at the University of Arizona, USA. For eight weeks, they analyzed two groups of volunteers subjected to one hour daily walk. Those who showed good concentration of vitamin C in blood had weight loss more significant than the other class, who despised solemnly ascorbic acid, another name of the nutrient - the burning of fat was 25% less per kilo.

This achievement, according to Carol Johnston, author of the research is due to carnitine, a molecule produced by the body and that is precisely the function of combating the accumulation of fat, putting it into the cells to be used in energy production. "This amino acid, which participates in the oxidation of fatty acids, is synthesized by vitamin C," she explains. "The merit of this research is to explain, at least partly, why some people have a harder time losing weight than others."

Ok, the study was done with supplementation. Nobody should use it with no indication of an expert, but nothing prevents you from turbine its menu with the famous sorrel. Unlike. Start your day with an orange juice at breakfast, eat a guava after lunch and fill the plate of vegetables like broccoli and brussels sprouts, seasoned with onions at dinner time. In the bargain, you prevent heart problems, gum lesions, tumors and other maladies of aging, besides being less susceptible to infections. Remember, however, that vitamin C is the weakest of all - exposed to light and high temperatures, part of their properties simply evaporates.

Other good sources of this powerful antioxidant: lemon, orange, cherry, tomato and cashew green leaves and potatoes - yes, she also has high levels in the nutrient. The issue is that much is lost in cooking. Therefore, other plants have a large advantage in the item vitamin C. Enjoy!

Supplement of fish oil reduces risk of heart attack and stroke

Previous studies suggested that fish oil supplements could reduce the likelihood of a second heart attack or stroke in patients who have recently had heart trouble. New research has shown that this nutritional supplement can also decrease the chance of sudden death.

The results of the study show that the risk reduction was evident after three months. This fact seems to reinforce the hypothesis that adding polyunsaturated fatty acids n-3 (known by its acronym in English PUFAs, polyunsaturated fatty acids) - usually found in fish and fish oil - a healthy diet can lower the possibility of fatal arrhythmia, irregular heart rate that, in severe cases can lead to cardiac arrest, according to the authors of the study.

"The reduction of sudden death appeared soon after initiation of treatment," said Roberto Marchioli, chief of staff of the Consorzio Mario Negri Sud, Italy, told Reuters Health. "This seems to reinforce the idea that the benefits of PUFAs could be due to an antiarrhythmic effect."

The study included 11 300 patients who had suffered a heart attack within the previous three months. All volunteers received the same preventive care and have a diet that follows the Mediterranean style - that is, rich in fruits, vegetables, olive oil and fish. Some people also consumed daily supplements of 1 gram of fish oil.

During the monitoring period, which lasted 3.5 years, 1031 participants died the team of Marchioli in the April issue of Circulation, the journal of the American Heart Association.

After only three months of treatment, patients who used supplements of fish oil appeared to have a 41% lower risk of dying from any cause, it said. Four months after initiation of therapy, these volunteers also showed to have significantly reduced chance of suffering sudden cardiac death.

At the end of the study period, patients treated with fish oil supplements had 45% less likely to have sudden death from causes related to heart, the scientists said. Based on these results, Marchioli says that the benefits of fish oil supplements "seem to be added to the benefits that can be obtained by standard preventive treatment."

"The use of a daily capsule of fish oil concentrate over 3.5 years resulted in a significant reduction of sudden cardiac death. Therefore, a simple and secure change in diet can produce a great benefit in terms of public health”, said the columnist Alexander Leaf, Harvard Medical School, Boston (Massachusetts), told Reuters Health.

"People with coronary heart disease or family history of the disorder among close relatives should be cautious and observe the advice of the recent American Heart Association to eat fatty fish two or more times per week or daily use of a supplement capsules of fish oil”, Leaf said.

How to avoid the aging of the hair?

Not only has the skin those ages with time, your hair also felt the effects of aging. As time passes, the wires become thinner, dry and brittle.

The fault lies in the loss of amino acids that are essential for hair. Amino acids are the smallest particles that make up proteins. The main protein in hair is keratin. She, together with Vitamin E and selenium provide protection to hair.

Therefore, the aging of wires (white hair) is not caused only by chronological age or genetics, but also by the lack of vitality of the wires, and this can occur at any age.

How to maintain the vitality of the wires?

Protect your hair from the sun is the first chronological rule against damage. The UV rays are still the greatest enemies of the hair, because they reduce the elasticity of the wires in addition to resect them and give them an opaque appearance.

Moisturize and use products suitable for the hair. This can restore the shine and still provide a soft texture to the hair. This practice should be incorporated into the routine: At least once a week, make a homemade hydration. Also, take a moment to go to the salon to take care of the locks from time to time.

Cauterizations have the power to nurture the leads and close the hair cuticles. That is, besides assisting in the retention of frizz, your hair will have the nutrients they need.

Rebuilds elasticity and structure of the hair, restoring shine and softness. Prevents photoaging hair (natural action that occurs on the scalp in persons aged 30 years).

The process takes place by applying a special shampoo, a treatment mask product called lipo recharges (based on a substance reconstructive scalp), an active complex vita refill-liposomes composed of P (which acts in the prevention of photoaging ), and other moisturizers empowering.

This type of hydration revitalizes the hair that has lost respect, with burning in the scalp, dull, dull and takes away the tired look of wires. This procedure should be done in a beauty salon.

Food for the wires

A healthy balanced diet is important not only for its silhouette, but also for the beauty of your skin, hair and nails. Nutritional problems leave hair dry, brittle and lifeless. And when too oily, can be a sign of an unbalanced diet.

Deficiencies of some vitamins and minerals may also cause injury, such as hair loss.

1. Magnesium - is essential in the formation of proteins such as keratin, which is the wires. Sources: seafood, avocado, melon, pineapple, star fruit and nuts.

2. Calcium - a mineral deficiency that makes the hair thin and brittle. Sources: dairy products, tofu, salmon and sardines.

3. Sodium - helps to control the water content within the wire and gives brilliance. Sources: seafood, tomatoes, celery and tofu.

4. Potassium - is very important to maintain flexibility and hydration. Sources: lean meat, banana, cucumber, grape, almond and sunflower seed.

5. Zinc - is that it gives strength to hair. Sources: meat, mushroom, egg, oysters and wheat germ.

Good Tips On Skin Care Products For Adult Acne

An increasingly common complaint has been the appearance of acne in adult women. Many patients who never experienced the problem during adolescence - a higher incidence of stage - come to live with it after 30 years of age.

In adulthood, the problem has characteristics totally different from that observed in adolescence and is generally associated with photoaging, the result of excessive sun exposure.

The disorder may be related to external agents, such as the use of unsuitable cosmetics, exposure to chemicals and industrial use of systemic medications, and the excessive oiliness of the skin, hormonal changes, menstrual disorders, wrong feeding, obesity and even stress.

Acne usually causes intense psychological changes that can lead to social inhibition, embarrassment, depression and insecurity in a professional environment.

Many patients in an attempt to improve the appearance of skin just wash your face several times a day, poke lesions exaggerate the use of cosmetics to hide the problem or self-treatment, and may very well aggravate the situation.

What many people do not know is that acne can be easily controlled and even eliminated, provided that the patient resorted to help from an expert who will prescribe the correct medicines and cosmetics in the office and suggest treatment if needed.

The number one rule for all cases is to abolish the use of time-based cosmetic creams, and one should always opt for gels and oil-free sunscreen. It is prohibited to squeeze or pick your face!

Therapies based on retinoic acid, retinoids such as isotretinoin and adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, cyproterone acetate, the combined use of soaps for specific skin cleansing and / or abrasive and antibiotics have excellent results.

In office, the Crystal Peeling, which promotes a microdermabrasion on the skin with the help of crystals of aluminum hydroxide, is a good option, as well as chemical peels. They make an exfoliation of the skin, improving its texture.

Already the Blue Light, a painless, reduces sebum secretion and the concentration of bacteria around the pilosebaceous follicle, reducing inflammation and the general appearance of the skin.

More modern methods such as Laser Genesis, also decrease inflammation and promote skin rejuvenation. It is for the dermatologist evaluated the best treatment option for each patient!

Having acne as an adult is really pretty much the same as acne at any other age. It stinks. Adults get acne for the same reasons and generally will use similar products to those used by teenagers, to clear up their outbreaks. There are some skin care products for adult acne that you can use, but for the most part it's simply a matter of finding which product works best for you.

There are so many different types of acne treatments on the market today that sometimes the biggest challenge in clearing up your acne is picking the right product.

There is no one size fits all product. Everyone has different skin and different needs so it's imperative that you find the product that works best for you and your skins unique needs.

For example, some people will have acne but they will also have very dry skin. A lot of acne treatments are made to dry your skin out, but obviously if you have dry skin that will create additional problems for your skin. On the other hand, if you have oily skin many acne treatments will work better for you since this is what many treatments are created to target.

It's also important to remember that a healthy body is the first line of defense against acne outbreaks. If you want to keep your skin healthy you need to keep your body as a whole, healthy.

Proper nutrition is vitally important for you to maintain your healthy skin. When fighting acne most people are familiar with the concept of avoiding greasy foods, but that is only just the start. Your body needs a continual supply of healthy fruits and vegetables. By giving your body the fuel it needs you are also helping your skin.

Keeping your body healthy doesn't just extend to choosing the right foods to eat, either. It also has to do with what you drink. Making sure you stay hydrated is another simple, yet very important, way for you to keep your skin clear. Most experts recommend you drink around 8 glasses of water every day to maintain proper hydration. It's also a good idea to avoid consuming too much caffeine or alcohol.

Now that you understand the importance of keeping your body healthy from the inside out, we'll explore some things to look for, in treatment products, that go directly on your skin. When trying to decide on acne products keep in mind that you may need to try several different products to find the one that's best for you.

Another important consideration is that many acne remedies contain harsh, potentially toxic, chemicals. It might surprise you to know that many cosmetic type products made in the U.S. actually contain chemicals that have been banned from use in Europe. Don't assume that just because you can buy a product over the counter that it's safe.

Try to find organic products. Here too,you have to be diligent though, since many companies have created their own 'certification' seals. These seals don't mean a thing, they are simply something the company that made the product has put on their label. Try to look for products that are certified organic by the USDA or other reputable, unbiased sources.

Don't get overwhelmed with the choices available to you in the skin care products for adult acne that are on the market today. Just do a little research and find the best product for your unique skin care needs. Once you've found it, just keep using it.

The Loss of Love, Couples have Fewer Friends than Single People

Experts warn that lovers should be careful not to disrespect his own individuality

You reduce your number of friends in the name of a new love? The question may sound cruel, but have to give people coming to live in a romantic relationship is virtually inevitable. It is concluded that research from the University of Oxford, UK, published in the specialized journal Journal of Personal Relationships. According to the survey, committed people are, on average, two close friends unless the unmarried.

The math is an unusual result, scientists say, the combination of two factors: lack of time for friends and loving commitment caused by the difficulty that human beings have to maintain close relationships with many individuals - according to the survey, that number is never greater than five. As people have already committed a partner, have room for only four close friends. But to devote himself to his partner, most enthusiasts can only keep three faithful companions whom they can turn in times of crisis and vent.

The study evaluated the affective relations of 540 people - 428 women and 112 men - of which 368 remained loving relationships. One surprise is the analysis indicated that the results were similar for both sexes. Both men and women lose friends in the same way when starting a new relationship.

- It was a surprise to us; we did not expect this score - revealed the director of the Institute of Anthropology and Cognitive Revolutionary University of Oxford, Robin Dunbar, the British newspaper The Guardian.

While agreeing with the British study, graduate student Sheila Noal, 23 years, married for about three months, believes the most important friendships can be maintained.

- I inevitably get away a little, have less time to leave. But I believe that this does not justify the end of a friendship - he opines.

For her, even without living so close ties are maintained.

- Whether they go out together or go to the same places, the feeling persists, consideration is the same, and that's what matters - says.

She says, however, charges that have suffered from other people since it began the relationship after 11 months resulted in marriage.

- There are always those people who complain, who say I disappeared, it never came. But I think friendship is just that. People have to understand and respect the fact that we are no longer available all the time - looks. - Same with me when I was single, I realized that some friends moved away, but I think it is completely normal.

For philosopher Institute of New Acropolis Melissa Andrade, the situation described by Robert is very common.

- We live in a period of very shallow relationships. Just as life is dynamic, relationships are also, so it's normal to walk away from some people - account. - However, the friendship that really matters is not related to coexistence. These are the cases of those who remain friends for years and years away, and when they meet, never seem to split up - explains.

10 Tips for emotional health and wellbeing

Cultivate a positive self-esteem

Self-esteem is to recognize himself as an important person, is to have self-esteem. Self-esteem acts as the "immune system of consciousness," because who has a high self-esteem is more resistant to weather conditions, willingness and ability to overcome obstacles and resume after the frustrations and failures.

However, when self-esteem is low, the person's resistance against the adversities of life diminishes. It becomes more influenced by the desire to avoid pain than to experience pleasure and negative factors in your life have more power over her than positive.

Self-esteem is learned within the family, through love, mutual admiration and the limits that parents impose on children to protect them from external threats and teach them to be responsible, the family will not have a good structure not cultivate good habits, will not have a good self-image and self-esteem, and will not be happy.

The scholars of child development say that if a child is treated with love and respect, internalize them and treat others the same way. However, if it is neglected and disrespected, may harbor feelings of fear and hatred of itself, and will have relationship problems.

If parents do not praise children for what is good not bother to know where to go and what they are doing, feelings of rejection will take root in their hearts, causing them to have negative thoughts like "I'm not important for my family because my parents did not ask for me or care to know how I am and what I'm doing. "

Avoid this happen to their children. Say you love them, praise them, encourage them, keep the dialogue between you, establish clear rules and distribute tasks within the home. The father, mother and children have, respectively, their values and their tasks to be undertaken within the home, so that coexistence is friendly and happy, everyone has a good self-esteem and develop themselves fully as human beings.

Treating Lymph Node Cancer: The Various Procedures

Cancer is a word that most of us dread to hear from our doctors. We know that it’s something that should not be taken lightly, plus we can’t even count how many times we have seen in the movies and television about the difficulties of the disease and more often than not the sad ending that follows. So hearing you have cancer of the lymph cells, which what lymphoma really is, is more than enough to give you and your family a scare. Treating lymphoma is never easy both physically and mentally for the patient. Having the full support of the family is a good thing to have in situations like these.

Lymphatic cancer arises from changes in lymphocytes, cells responsible for defending the body.

Change a cell, causes the lymphocytes grow in an uncontrolled manner and multiply in a disorderly fashion. Thus there is an accumulation of cells in lymph nodes (glands of the lymph system), which makes it bigger and bigger.

A student of Fashion, Larissa Meira, living with the disease since 2007. She says that at first I felt much pain in the spine and often complained to the doctors, until one of them requested an MRI. It was there that she discovered she had two tumors in two vertebrae. "Besides the pain I lost much weight, felt very hot evening and itching in the legs. No associated symptoms for which there was no disease," says Larissa.

Generally, lymphomas begin with the appearance of nodules, like lumps. It is more common that arises in areas such as the neck, behind the ears, armpits and groin. However, they can be formed in other parts of the body such as the spleen, bone marrow and even in the stomach and liver.

Detection is a bit complex because the swelling of the lymph nodes may be in reaction to an infection and not necessarily cancer. Otherwise, symptoms may be masked by the use of anti-inflammatory, which can temporarily reduce the size of the lymph nodes, delaying diagnosis. Most patients feel much pain at the tumor site, tiredness, weakness, fever and generally thin. For the correct diagnosis is made imaging tests such as ultrasound or MRI, noted after the tumor is a lymph node biopsy or organ affected.

Treatment is based on chemotherapy, radiotherapy or with monoclonal antibodies, a cocktail of drugs that directly attack diseased cells without affecting healthy cells. The duration depends on the response of each organism. Where, after treatment, the tumor back to attack the body is needed bone marrow transplant.

Lymphoma develops when the lymph cells begin to multiply quickly beyond what is normal. This abnormal growth soon forms tumors. These lymph cells are found in blood and lymph nodes thus with the grown of the cancer cells it is only natural that the lymph nodes enlarge and manifests as painless lumps in the neck, armpits or groin.

There are two main types of lymphoma. The most common one is the Hodgkin's lymphoma. This type is distinguished from the rest by the presence of the Reed-Sternberg cell. The spread of the cancer cells in Hodgkin's lymphoma is more predictable and often quite limited unlike the non-Hodgkin's lymphomas where cancer cells develop first in other organs before spreading into the lymph nodes. The non-Hodgkin’s types of lymphomas are classified according low-grade, intermediate-grade or high-grade lymphomas which basically is based on how quickly the cancer cells spread.

Because of the number of types of lymphomas, the treatments vary. Often the treatments are combinations of various therapies and procedures. It is normal to have a number of treatments for a single lymphoma case. Once the type of lymphoma has been diagnosed and identified, the next step is to determine what stage it is in now. The kinds and extent of treatment of the cancer is dependent on the age of the patient and the degree or stage of the lymphoma. The treatment methods are either through chemotherapy, radiation therapy, antibody therapy (or biological therapy) and bone-marrow or stem cell transplantation. Again, combining one or two of these treatment methods is possible to address the present condition of a patient.

Chemotherapy uses various drugs to kill the tumor or cancer cells. The drugs can be taken orally or through injection. The advantage of using chemotherapy is that the drugs do not cause that much damage to the nearby normal and healthy cells. Radiotherapy, on the other hand, uses X-rays to kill the tumor cells. The rays damage the DNA of the cancer cells and because the DNA is damaged the cancer cells are unable to multiply which halts that growth of the cancer. Nearby healthy cells are damaged from the radiation bombardment so the goal in radiotherapy is minimize the damage to nearby, healthy cells. That is why those who undergo radiotherapy is scheduled to receive small doses of radiation at a time to lessen the damage to the cells.

Another treatment is the antibody therapy which uses antibodies which target unique molecules of a cancer cell. This attack from the antibody will eventually kill the cancer cells. And finally, the last way of treating lymphoma is by bone marrow or stem cell transplantations. These are medical procedures where the stem cells that were destroyed by high doses of chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy are replaced through surgery.
